How to Choose BMX Handlebars

BMX bars run from about 7.5" to 10" of rise: lower rise suits race and flatland, while taller rise suits park and street. They arrive uncut at 28"–30" wide, so you can trim them down to your shoulder width.

The spec people get wrong most often is clamp diameter. The bar's center section is either standard 7/8" (22.2mm) or oversized 1-1/8" (28.6mm), and it has to match your stem. For durability, most street and park bars use 4130 chromoly for its strength and forgiving flex, while lighter aluminum bars are favored for racing.

We stock bars from Cult, Odyssey, The Shadow Conspiracy, SE Bikes, Supercross BMX, and our own Billet BMX line. Round out the cockpit with fresh grips and a smooth headset.

BMX Handlebars FAQ

What size BMX handlebars do I need?

Most adult riders run 8.5" to 9.5" of rise and around 29"–30" of width. Park and street riders often go taller; racers and flatland riders go lower. Since bars come uncut, buy wider and trim to your shoulder width.

Are BMX handlebars universal across brands?

The grip ends are a universal 7/8" (22.2mm), so any grip fits. The center clamp section is either standard 7/8" or oversized 1-1/8" (28.6mm) and must match your stem, so check that before mixing brands.

Chromoly or aluminum: which lasts longer?

For street and park, 4130 chromoly is more durable because it flexes under impact instead of cracking. Aluminum is lighter and popular for racing, but stiffer and less impact-tolerant. Choose chromoly for abuse, aluminum for weight savings.

Do new handlebars come with grips?

No, bars are sold on their own. You will need a separate set of grips, plus optional bar ends to plug the tube ends.
